Project Summary

This TA is a pilot project and capacity building support to local communities, NGOs and the Provincial Government for a functional literacy program for women and girls with the strengthened emphasis on skills development. It is intended to prepare the tested curriculum and participatory approaches for use within the counterpart loan (Sustainable Livelihood in Barani Areas - Punjab - Project) that was approved in 2004.

The TA will have the following components:

  • preparation of syllabus and training materials suited for literacy and skills training aimed specifically at girls and women in isolated, underdeveloped and disadvantaged rural areas
  • pilot testing and assessment of service delivery to poor girls and women in selected pilot villages
  • expansion of the training program to meet the demand expected from the implementation of Sustainable Livelihood in Barani Areas Project
  • establishment of women's literacy resource centers in each district covered by the proposed Sustainable Livelihood in Barani Areas Project, to aid in sustainability and expansion of the program.
