TA 4308: Poverty Reduction in Grassland Improvement Program - People's Republic of China
Financed by Poverty Reduction Cooperation Fund
Project Summary
Worsening degradation and desertification of grasslands, particularly in the dry and highly fragile environments of the impoverished Western Region, seriously affect the welfare and livelihoods of nearly a quarter of the PRC’s population. However, emerging evidence suggests that the well intentioned policies that were made for the protection and the revival of the grassland have had some unintended adverse impact on the economic well being of the affected population.
The TA will carry out a study to:
- assess the impact of current policies and implementation to the livelihoods of grasslanddependent communities; and
- identify cost-effective models that will reverse the continuing degradation while retaining the stability of environment and resources.
