Project Summary

This TA builds on the lessons learned from the World Bank-funded China Southwest Poverty Reduction Project (1995-2001) and apply similar community-driven and participatory approaches for increasing rural income and reducing poverty to selected remotevillages of Guizhou and Yunnan.

The key activities of this TA include:

  • Development of a participatory action plan at the village level which include a comprehensive assessment of livelihood, assets and agro-ecological conditions of the villages
  • Piloting of key sustainable alternative rural livelihood projects to be identified during the participatory planning
  • Implementation of policy reforms on local and national policies that directly impact on sustainable alternative rural livelihoods
  • Conduct of capacity development and awareness programs
  • Establishment of a community based monitoring and evaluation system and a feedback mechanism
