Project Summary

This TA will develop a conceptual framework of the linkages among urban air pollution, poverty and health effects, and empirically test this framework in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC). The framework will enable the integration of poverty effects, perceptions, coping mechanisms, and economic burden of air polluted-related health effects into policies and action plan for air quality management in HCMC. The information will help in formulating policies and programs to avoid, minimize, or mitigate such effects/impacts.

The key activities of this TA include:

  • assessment of air pollution impact on respiratory health of children
  • detailed assessment of exposure to air pollution among the poor
  • baseline health survey
  • public perceptions survey
  • economic burden of air pollution
  • policy analysis for enhanced policy making in air quality management for HCMC
  • capacity building
  • awareness building
