AFTERMATH OF DESTRUCTION — A boy sits amid the rubble of a devastated island in the Maldives. The tsunami affected one third of the 300,000 population, destroying homes, washing topsoil from home gardens, and contaminating the ater supply. But reconstruction funds are becoming available—and tourists are also coming back. Tourism, the engine of the country’s growth, may recover in months rather than years.
