ADB Review [ June-July 2006 ]

Independent Evaluation of ADB Safeguards

ADB’s Operations Evaluation Department (OED) is evaluating ADB’s safeguard policies on the environment, indigenous peoples, and involuntary resettlement. The evaluation complements ADB’s pending review of these policies. OED welcomes stakeholder views on, and experiences of, the application of safeguard policies in ADBsupported operations. ADB Supports Civil Society Initiatives on Anticorruption

ADB recently approved a technical assistance (TA) project to capitalize on the value added of civil society organizations (CSOs) in combatting corruption. The TA will pilot test CSO innovative mechanisms and approaches to improve transparency and accountability, and fight corruption. Through the intermediation of the Partnership for Transparency Fund (PTF), grant funding and technical assistance will be provided to CSOs in India, Mongolia, Pakistan, and Philippines. PTF is an international NGO with extensive experience in helping civil society play an effective role in the design, implementation, and monitoring of national anticorruption programs. Special Project Facilitator Releases Annual Report

The 2005 annual report of ADB’s Office of the Special Project Facilitator (OSPF) has been published with details on outreach activities, outcomes of complaints received, and feedback on OSPF’s complaint processes provided by NGOs, local communities, governments, and ADB.
