Developing Asian Countries Must Rethink Water Management to Avoid Crisis
To avoid a crisis in water security, developing countries in Asia will have to rethink how they manage their vital water resources, according to the Asian Water Development Outlook, a new report commissioned by ADB and authored by a team of experts led by Professor Asit Biswas, the 2006 Stockholm Water Prize Laureate. ADB President Calls for Renewed Development Strategies at ASEAN Summit

"As climate change threatens growth, this threat also presents an opportunity for East Asian countries to renew their development strategies and strengthen regional cooperation to tackle climate change," President Kuroda told leaders attending the 3rd East Asia Summit in Singapore on 21 November. The President participated in several key activities relating to the 13th ASEAN Summit. He addressed the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit, met with Viet Nam Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, and called for increasing subregional cooperation in Southeast Asia during his participation in the leaders’ meetings for BIMP–EAGA and IMT–GT. ADB Looks to Boost Funding for Poverty Alleviation Efforts

ADB officials and government representatives from the international donor community and selected recipient countries convened in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to discuss the replenishment of the Asian Development Fund, an endowment used to provide grants and low-interest loans to countries with low per capita incomes and limited debt-repayment capacity. Emerging East Asian Bond Markets Resilient, But Risks Loom, says ADB Report

Strong economic growth and improved financial systems along with limited exposure to US subprime mortgages have helped curb spillover effects of global credit woes on emerging East Asian economies, but risks loom, the November edition of Asia Bond Monitor says. Even though there are no signs of widespread problems in emerging East Asia, downside risks to regional economic and financial market trends remain and wider ramifications cannot be ruled out in the future. President Kuroda Conducts Week-Long Visit to the PRC [ PDF ]
ADB President Haruhiko Kuroda met with senior government officials and visited several ADB projects during a five-day visit to the People’s Republic of China on 5–9 November 2007. He also gave a keynote address at the launch ceremony for the China Clean Development Mechanism Fund. Read the speech.
