ADB President Urges Developing Asia to Invest in Solar Energy
The Asia Solar Energy Initiative (ASEI) - a major program launched by ADB in May 2010 to identify and develop large capacity solar projects - will increase the amount of solar power generated in the Asia and Pacific region six-fold to 3,000 megawatts by mid-2013, ADB President Haruhiko Kuroda said at the second meeting of the Asia Solar Energy Forum (ASEF). Local Currency Bond Markets in Emerging East Asia Had Grown by an Annual 18.8%
According to the latest quarterly Asia Bond Monitor (PDF), this growth as of the end of June, with $4.8 trillion in paper outstanding, was driven by a 24.4% year-on-year growth in the corporate bond market, which has become an increasingly important source of funding for private sector investment. Luxembourg Supports ADB Fund Targeting Financial Sector Development in Asia
The Government of Luxembourg has committed a further EUR1.5 million ($1.97 million) to an ADB-administered fund set up to strengthen financial systems in developing countries in Asia and the Pacific to aid inclusive growth. News release |

Spain Increases Contribution to Cooperation Fund

ADB Establishes Pooled Infrastructure Fund for Afghanistan
ADB set up a new fund which will pool public and private resources to help Afghanistan finance much-needed infrastructure. It will provide an opportunity to bilateral, multilateral, and individual contributors to partner with ADB in financing infrastructure investments such as roads, railways, airports, energy facilities, irrigation systems, and improve the livelihood of the Afghan people. Cofinancing from European Member Countries, October–December 2010
European member countries of ADB contributed $27.7 million grants to finance ADB technical assistance projects and grants: Austria $2.0 million, France $3.4 million, GTZ $0.1 million, IFAD $0.5 million, KfW $16.3, United Kingdom $3.2 million, Multidonor Trust Fund including Austria, Norway, Spain and Sweden $2.3. In addition, $76.4 million by way of loan was provided to cofinance projects in Viet Nam (KfW $36.400 million) and in Sri Lanka (AFD $40.000 million). |
