Progress Report on Implementation of Tsunami Emergency Project Assistance: Maldives
The project, consisting of $1.8 million in loans and $20 million in grants from the Asian Tsunami Fund, is expected to be completed in 2007. The project covers rehabilitation and improvement to the country's water supply, sanitation and solid waste management, transport and power infrastructure, and agriculture.

President Kuroda Opens Sydney Office
The Pacific Liaison and Coordination Office (PLCO) will support a key ADB objective - to be more responsive to the needs of its borrowing countries. The office will focus on programs in Kiribati, Nauru, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu in addition to building stronger ties with development partners in Australia and New Zealand.

ADB to Close Office in Vanuatu
The decision came after a government announcement to cease borrowing from multilateral lenders in the near to medium term. ADB's newly-opened Pacific Liaison and Coordination Office in Sydney and the South Pacific Subregional Office in Fiji will continue to assume responsibility for all activities in the Pacific. ADB will continue to support Vanuatu through technical assistance grants.

Afghanistan's Civil Aviation Sector Receives a Boost
In the first step toward establishing an independent civil aviation authority, ADB has given a $1 million technical assistance grant to improve the air safety oversight of the Ministry of Transport and financial governance of airport operations.

$1 Billion 5-year Global Benchmark Bond Issue First Since 2004
This five-year bond reinforces ADB's core funding strategy of maintaining a strong presence in key currency bond markets through regular issuance of liquid benchmark global bonds. The bond is expected to yield 20 basis points above the 3.875 US Treasury due July 2010.
