Commitment to Gender Equality in ADB Reaffirmed
At an event to commemorate International Women's Day, ADB Vice President, Kempheng Pholsena reiterated the Bank's commitment to establishing equality in the workforce. She said that since ADB developed its first organizational Gender Action Program in 1998, much progress has been made. As ADB prepares to develop its third Gender Action Program this year, it does so with the number of women in the workplace substantially increased.

Equipment Given to Fight Avian Flu in Azerbaijan
ADB Turned over $50,000 worth of protective equipment and supplies to the Ministry of Agriculture to support urgent efforts to address the growing threat of avian influenza in Azerbaijan. The equipment will protect and support workers involved in prevention and control activities.

NGOs to Work Along Side Government in People's Republic of China
In a major first in poverty reduction efforts in the People's Republic of China (PRC), nongovernment organizations (NGOs) have been competitively selected to serve as partners in state-funded poverty work.
Selected NGOs will work with local governments, poor villagers, and other stakeholders in Jiangxi Province on poverty reduction and planning, and to oversee state-funded poverty reduction work according to priorities identified by the poor communities.
