US Senate Official Visits Pasig River Relocation Site

Ms. Heidi Crebo-Rediker, Chief, International Finance and Economics, Committee on Foreign Relations (CFR), US Senate (fourth from left), visits the school in Cardinal Sin Village which is a relocation site of the ADB-funded Pasig River Rehabilitation and Environmental Management Project. She was accompanied by Christopher Grewe, US Director's Advisor and Nicholas Ma, US Senate CFR (third from left).

Philippines Country Team Retreat

A team retreat for the Philippines Country Partnership Strategy, 2011-2016, was attended by ADB sector specialists handling Philippine projects where highly respected resource persons who were senior government officials discussed critical constraints and policy options to growth and poverty reduction. Presentations were made on macroeconomic management, good governance, infrastructure development, trade and investment, and access to opportunities. News Release: ADB Approves $500 Million Fiscal Stimulus Loan to Philippines
The ADB Board of Directors approved a $500 million short-term fiscal stimulus loan for the Philippines - the first loan approval for ADB's Countercyclical Support Facility.

Chief Justice Visits ADB President

Chief Justice Reynato Puno met with President Kuroda to thank ADB for the assistance and continued support in improving the integrity, accountability, and efficiency of the country's justice system through the $300 million Governance in Justice Sector Reform Program Loan and technical assistance.

Japanese Students Visit Smokey Mountain

A group of students from Hiroshima University visit the ADB -funded Materials Recovery Facility in Tondo, Manila under the Smokey Mountain Remediation and Development Project with their professors as part of a study tour.

US Budget Official Visits Smokey Mountain Project

Leo Sommaripa, Program Examiner at the US Office of Management and Budget visits the ADB -funded Materials Recovery Facility in Tondo, Manila under the Smokey Mountain Remediation and Development Project. He was accompanied by Logan Sturm, US Director's Advisor.

 

 

14 August
Cavite Officials Visit ADB Housing Project

Top Cavite officials led by Provincial Administrator Aristides Velazco (second row, third from left) inspect the Pamayanang Maliksi housing project in General Trias. The project is spearheaded by the provincial government in partnership with developer R-II Builders, Inc. with P400 million funding from the ADB's Development of Poor Urban Communities Sector Project (DPUCSP). The Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council, as oversight agency of the housing sector, and the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) as development bank, are co-executing the project.

Chinese Director Visits Philippine Projects

Executive Director Wencai Zhang (People's Republic of China representative to the ADB Board of Directors), (second from right) and director's advisors Feng Gong (extreme right) and Xia Lu (second from left) visited the Nueva Ecija Federation of Dairy Carabao Cooperative (NEFEDCO) milk project funded under the Agrarian Reform Communities Project in Talavera, Nueva Ecija. They also visited the Fisheries Resource Management Project in Pangasinan and Development of Poor Urban Communities project in Angeles City.

This fourth class municipality just one hour out of Cagayan de Oro City was unheard of before it landed on the front pages of newspapers by being the "Christmasterpiece: Bayanihang Pasko 2005" grand winner. Beating major cities and towns nationwide, Naawan won the Christmas landmark-making competition with its colorful "Arch of Friendship: Building Future with People" entry. But behind its fertile creativity lurked a need for basic services, such as potable water.
