Presentation: Results Based Planning and Budgeting Systems in the Philippine Rural Development Sector

A study on Results Based Planning and Budgeting Systems in the Philippine Rural Development Sector was presented by Mr. Andreas Lange, ADB's secondee from GTZ, in connection with the ADB technical assistance on Harmonization and Development Effectiveness. The study was presented before selected government oversight agencies. The study discusses some of the strengths and weaknesses of existing results-based management (RBM) systems and provides some preliminary recommendations for possible contributions of TA7190 to RBM in rural development in the Philippines.

ADB US Executive Director visits ADB's Mindanao Projects

Executive Director Curtis Chin (third from left), US representative to the ADB Board of Directors, visited the Panabo City Integrated Bus and Jeepney Terminal funded under the ADB's Mindanao Basic Urban Services Sector Project as part of his consultation visits. He was accompanied by top local officials led by City Mayor Jose Silvosa. He also visited other ADB projects like the Women's Resource Center in Panabo City and the Davao International Airport.

ADB to Help Philippines Save $100 Million Yearly Fuel Cost by Using Energy-Efficient Lights

ADB will fund an energy-efficiency project in the Philippines that will give away 13 million energy-saving lights to homeowners and businesses as part of a government push to cut the nation's power bills. Read the news release.

PRRC, Pasig City led inauguration of Buting Linear Park

Pasig City Mayor Robert C. Eusebio and Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC) Executive Director Deogracias J. Tablan, Jr. led the inauguration and blessing of the Buting II Linear Park at Barangay Buting, Pasig City.

The 700-meter park is part of the riverbanks development project of the PRRC under the Asian Development Bank (ADB)-assisted Pasig River Environmental Management and Rehabilitation Sector Development Program that aims to set up Environmental Preservation Areas along the ten-meter easement of the Pasig River through the relocation of informal settlers and the construction of linear parks, walkways and greenbelts.

PGMA inaugurates first public mall in Ozamiz

OZAMIZ CITY - President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo formally opened (5 January) the newly-rehabilitated and the biggest public mall/market in this city.

The President cut the ribbon and unveiled the project marker of the public mall located at 50th Barangay, the central business district of the city, signaling its formal operation to the consuming public.

She was assisted by Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap, Misamis Occidental Gov. Loreto Leo Ocampos and Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr. in the ribbon-cutting and marker unveiling rites.

After the inaugural rites, the President joined by local officials, city hall and provincial capitol employees and staff of the newly-rehabilitated public mall, inspected the facilities of the 14,264 sq.m. two-storey public mall.

The city's public mall, formerly the Ozamiz City public market, was converted into a two-storey public market designed to provide convenient space and facilities to market-goers and stallholders.

He said Ozamiz City public mall can accommodate up to 955 stalls and 14 rentable spaces, rooms for offices, banks and food chains, a recreational area, janitorial service offices, with bins and receptacles strategically located around the building, a stage and parking spaces.

Parojinog said out of the total allocation for the public mall of P161.01 million, P138.240 million came from the Asian Development Bank's Mindanao Basic Urban Sector Services (ADB-MBUSS) Project Fund, P15.380 million from Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP), and P7.48 million as the local government's equity.
