National Strategy and Regulatory Framework for Philippine Microinsurance Launched 29 January
Director General Kunio Senga of Southeast Asia Regional Department joined a microinsurance launch attended by 300 representatives including microinsurance clients, microinsurance institutions, government agencies, academe, and donor and diplomat communities. In his speech, Senga affirmed ADB's commitment to supporting the Government of the Philippines in its efforts to formalize and upgrade the microinsurance industry, under a project funded by the Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction financed by the Government of Japan. Finance Secretary Margarito Teves delivered the keynote address.

ADB Country Director Keynotes PBSP Foundation Day Celebration
Neeraj Jain, country director, chats with Marixi Prieto, Philippine Daily Inquirer Board Chairwoman, and Manny Pangilinan, chairman of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company, before he delivers the keynote speech at the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP)'s 39th Foundation Day Celebration. His speech was entitled "Responsible Business: Empowering Communities, Sustaining the Environment." Prieto and Pangilinan are trustee and chairman of the PBSP, respectively. ADB has been a major partner of PBSP, the largest business-led social development foundation in the Philippines.

ADB Vice President Visits Southern Leyte
ADB Vice President C. Lawrence Greenwood Jr., accompanied by Neeraj Jain, country director, visited ADB projects in Southern Leyte including the site of the 2006 landslide disaster and the community assets rebuilt after the disaster with a Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction grant. He also visited high-performing schools and farm-to-market roads upgraded with ADB assistance. Vice President Greenwood met with Governor Damian Mercado, mayors, project beneficiaries, and local communities.

Regional Forum on the Impact of the Global Economic and Financial Crisis
ADB held a regional forum on the Impact of the Global Economic and Financial Crisis to engage developing member countries in East Asia, Central and West Asia, South Asia, and Southeast Asia to share national and global experiences on how the to minimize adverse effects of the global economic and financial crisis. Impact and Policy Responses: Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand was one of the reports presented. Read the report.
