Assistance for disaster preparedness
ADB and government representatives visited disaster-stricken areas in Southern Leyte and Oriental Mindoro as part of consultations to promote ADB-Philippine development partnership. ADB School buildings project turnover in Southern Leyte
Alternate Executive Director Marita Magpili-Jimenez, representing Kazakhstan, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Mongolia, Pakistan, Philippines, and Timor-Leste to the Asian Development Bank's (ADB) Board of Directors, addresses town and school officials in Don Agustin F. Escaño National High School in Tomas Oppus, Southern Leyte at the 5 June turnover of school buildings constructed under the Department of Education's Secondary Education Improvement and Development project for which ADB provided a $53 million loan. The project will benefit over a million high school students in 14 poor provinces in which enrollment and completion rates are low, and student achievement levels are below average. The project aims to improve the quality of public secondary education as well as access to education.
