ADB Philippine Country Director Speaks at AIM Business Week

Neeraj Jain, ADB Philippine Country Director delivered a speech "Issues and Challenges in Asian Economies" to students of the Asian Institute of Management during its Business Week celebration. Read the speech.

Regional Workshop on Social Assistance and Conditional Cash Transfer Programs

The workshop discussed the impact of conditional cash transfer programs on health and education, and other conditional cash transfer measures that can help developing member countries (DMCs) handle economic downturns and their impact on poor people. Secretary Esperanza Cabral of the Department of Social Welfare and Development made a presentation on the Philipines' own CCT application called 4Ps or Pantawid Pampamilyang Pilipino Program. Pasig River Linear Park Inaugurated

Another linear park along the riverbank of Pasig River under the ADB's Pasig River Environmental Management and Rehabilitation Project was inaugurated recently in Barangay Vergara, Mandaluyong City. The Vergara Linear Park project is 140 linear meters long and 10 meters wide with a total cost of P8.7 million. Read the news release.

ADB Philippine Country Director Briefs Economic Reporters

Neeraj Jain, ADB Philippine Country Director, shared with Philippine economic reporters the ADB's upcoming country program and projects pipeline for the Philippines.

 

 

6 July
Country Programming Exercise

A wrap up meeting on the preparation of the Country Programming Exercise for 2010-2012 was held which was attended by the ADB Country Team and government oversight agencies led by Deputy Director General Rolando Tungpalan of the National Economic and Development Authority. Claudia Buentjen, ADb Sr. governance and capacity Development Specialist, made a presentation of the Results of the Sectoral Meetings/workshops and Confirmation of Pipeline Programs and Projects for Inclusion in the ADB Country Operations Business Plan (COBP) 2010-2012.

Analyzing Poverty Issues in the Philippines

Fernando Aldaba, Chairman of Economics Department, Ateneo de Manila University, led a presentation on the poverty situation in the Philippines and shared recommendations in addressing constraints on 2 July. DILG Undersecretary Austere Panadero; former DDG Gilbert Llanto, National Economic Development Authority; and UP Dean Alex Brillantes gave comments.  Joel Mangahas, ADB Country Specialist, was moderator. Philippine Workshop to Improve Jail Inmates Records

A workshop to improve the Simplified Inmates Record System was held at ADB HQ in line with the ADB-assisted Justice Sector Reform Program. Improvements to the system will prevent overstaying of inmates and facilitate release of eligible inmates and address congestion in jails and clogging of court dockets.
