Launching of the Energy Efficiency Project in Cagayan de Oro City

Cagayan de Oro City launched its "Switch to CFL" program as part of the ADB's Philippine Energy Efficiency Project, a nationwide drive to make the Philippines incandescent bulb-free by 2010. At the ceremonial distribution were (from left) Director Evelyn Reyes of the Department of Energy; Energy Undersecretary Roy Kyamco; and Ralph Paguio, Vice President of Cagayan Electric Power and Light Company.

Launching of the Energy Efficiency Project in Cebu

Cebu launched its "Switch to CFL" program as part of the ADB's Philippine Energy Efficiency Project, a nationwide drive to make the Philippines incandescent bulb-free by 2010. Chinese Director Visits Philippine Projects

ADB donates used computers to Philippine beneficiaries

ADB's Office of Administrative Services and Philippine Country Office turn over used computers and printers to local institutions as part of its community outreach program. The beneficiaries are Sambayanan ng Muling Pagkabuhay Multi Purpose Cooperative (an ADB grant project beneficiary in Smokey Mountain, Tondo); Quezon City Jail (ADB-assisted through the Justice Sector Reform Program); Division of Social Sciences, University of the Philippines (UP) Visayas; and the Center for Policy and Executive Development, National College of Public Administration and Governance of UP. Neeraj Jain, CD, PhCO and Cecile Gregory, Director, OAIS led ADB representatives (third and fifth in last row).

A Roundtable Discussion on the Economics of Climate Change was held on 29 October. The Roundtable Discussion presented findings of the regional study undertaken by ADB entitled "The Economics of Climate Change in Southeast Asia: A Regional Review" which is based on a review of climate change studies in the region. ADB Philippine Country Office and Office of Administrative Services briefed military officers taking up Management and Fiscal studies on ADB projects in the Philippines and ADB's security procedures. Philippine Country Portfolio Review Wrap-Up Meeting

In culmination of the portfolio review conducted from August to October for ADB's ongoing assistance to the Philippines, a wrap-up meeting was held between Philippine project counterparts and ADB staff at the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) led by NEDA Deputy Director General Rolando Tungpalan (third from right) and ADB Philippine Country Director Neeraj Jain (fourth from right) where issues in project implementation and action plans were discussed.

The ADB Philippine Office is now located at the 1st Level, Special Facilities Block of the ADB Headquarters Building, right across its former location, effective 26 October.

BIMP-EAGA Countries Agree on Priority Infrastructure Projects

Leaders of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines (BIMP) have agreed to start carrying out 12 priority infrastructure projects over the next two years under the BIMP East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) subregional cooperation program. Read the news release.

ADB donates used computers to NDCC and Bureau of Customs

ADB donated 51 used computers and 2 network printers to the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) for its operations in addition to a $3 million grant for emergency relief efforts in the wake of recent typhoons. ADB Principal Director for Administrative Services C.R. Rajendran (fourth from left) turned over the equipment to Office of Civil Defense Administrator Glenn Rabonza (second from right). The ADB also turned over 20 computers and two printers to the Bureau of Customs to improve the efficiency of BOC's one-stop-shop field offices serving the BIMP-EAGA subregional cooperation program supported by ADB.
