Portraits of Change: India and ADB
A few among a billion, the people portrayed in this exhibit are just a handful of India’s citizens. And they all have something in common. They are working toward a better future – and changing India one life at a time.
Since its first loan in 1986, the Government of India and ADB have collaborated in a dynamic partnership to reduce poverty through infrastructure-led growth, particularly in less developed states. As a founding member and fourth largest shareholder, ADB’s assistance to India totals $15.38 billion. Thirty-one projects are ongoing.
Constructing rural roads, developing urban areas, building energy infrastructure, helping communities recover from natural disasters: the relationship between ADB and India is a partnership that changes lives.
This gallery captures the essence and flavors of this change – the dignified vigor of laborers in a seaport, the intensity of a technician familiarizing himself with a new piece of equipment, the wide-eyed wonder of a schoolgirl, the wizened gaze of a 90-year old grandmother. More than just snapshots of development, these photographs taken in ADB-assisted projects bring us face to face with the ultimate goal of development: to give each person the opportunity to develop the full expression of his or her humanity.
