All-weather road links north and south of Kyrgyz Republic

Within the next few months, a project to unite the northern and southern halves of Kyrgyz Republic with an all-weather highway traversing two mighty mountain passes will be completed.

ADB has financed the upgrading of most of the 650 km road between the capital of Bishkek in the north and Osh, the largest city of the south.

The former camel trail winds through icy mountains that used to be inaccessible during the winter. ADB, which is promoting regional cooperation in Central Asia, has also financed the rehabilitation of the road from Almaty in Kazakhstan to Bishkek and now plans to upgrade a large section of the road from Osh to People's Republic of China.
