Tajikistan, ADB Mark 10 Years of Partnership
March 2009


On 19 March 2009, ADB Vice President Xiaoyu Zhao met with Tajikistan President Emomali Rakhmon on the sidelines of the 10th anniversary of partnership between ADB and Tajikistan. They exchanged views on enhancing cooperation, current economic situation in the country, and the expected role of ADB in helping the country in the difficult time of the global financial and economic crisis.

"ADB is proud of its 10-year record of partnership with Tajikistan, and looks forward to many more years of productive collaboration with the government and the Tajik people," said ADB Vice President Xiaoyu Zhao during the reception.

ADB's Country Director for Tajikistan Makoto Ojiro opened the reception to celebrate 10 years of partnership between ADB and Tajikistan on 19 March in Dushanbe.

Over 100 senior government officials, representatives of diplomatic community, donors/international agencies, NGOs and media attended the reception to celebrate 10 years of partnership between ADB and Tajikistan on 19 March in Dushanbe.

Marking the 10th anniversary, ADB Vice President Xiaoyu Zhao held a press conference for local journalists in Dushanbe. "For the next two years, ADB will commit about $102 million on grant basis to finance government's priority projects. ADB's program in Tajikistan is expected to continue supporting the energy and transport sectors in support of regional cooperation, and policy reform in improving investment climate," said ADB Vice President Xiaoyu Zhao.

On 20 March 2009, ADB Vice President Xiaoyu Zhao met local communities -beneficiaries of the ADB-supported project rehabilitating regional road corridor linking capital Dushanbe with Kyrgyz border.
