Pacific Capacity Development StudyADB’s Pacific Regional Department (PARD) partnered with AusAID, NZAid, UNDP and the World Bank to conduct a regional study of the state of capacity development (CD) in the Pacific Region. PurposeThe study aimed to secure a better understanding of the roles, responsibilities, and approaches of governments and development partners, including civil society actors in capacity development in the Pacific Region. ObjectivesThe study included 22 case studies which explored a wide range of CD approaches across different modalities in a number of sectors in 11 Pacific countries. Targeted areas included economic planning, infrastructure development, health and legal sector reforms, fisheries, civil society enhancement, and regional planning initiatives. The case study findings were analyzed to help outline recommendations to chart future directions for CD intervention in the Pacific Region. Implementation Arrangements: Schedule, Activities, Expected OutputsThe study was supervised by the Working Group on Sector Wide Approaches and Capacity Development and the Pacific Regional Department (PARD). The study, launched in late 2006, comprised three phases and concluded in August 2007.
