    Description
    The ensuing Project envisages improving of the 106-km northern line of Tajik Railway between Bekabad and Kanibadam (km-post 136), including electrification and track rehabilitation. Institutional strengthening and policy reforms in Tajik Railway will be pursued under the Project.

    Objectives and Scope
    The main objective of the TA is to help the Government prepare a feasibility study for the Project that would enhance trade and commerce through efficient transportation of goods and people in the region, generate employment, raise living standards of people and reduce poverty. This will be achieved by improving railway infrastructure and ensuring its commercial operation in a market environment. The scope of the study under the TA will cover technical, economic, financial, environmental, institutional, and socioeconomic (including poverty impact) analysis of the proposed Project as per the ADB's requirements.

    Consulting Services
    About 5 person-months of international consultant services and 5 person-months of domestic consultants will be required to implement the TA. The international consultants will have experience in (i) railway engineering (electrification of railway and track) and operation; (ii) economic and financial analysis; and (iii) environmental and social sciences. The domestic consultants will have experience in railway engineering and operation, financial accounting, and environment
