The TA will prepare a feasibility study of three or four schemes selected from the nine large irrigation schemes recommended by the Government. The possible project activities may consist of (i) institutional development of Bangladesh Water Development Board; (ii) institutional strengthening of Water Management Organizations and Joint Management Committees; (iii) improvement of service delivery by means of improved flood control, drainage, irrigation, and river erosion mitigation facilities; (iv) integrated agriculture and fisheries development; and (v) poverty-focused interventions and other water-related livelihood support.
The TA will assist the Government to design an investment project that is suitable for external financing in establishing participatory water management system in very large flood control, drainage, and irrigation (FCDI) schemes. The project goal is to enhance agricultural growth and poverty reduction in the concerned FCDI schemes through sustainable water management system that can operate and maintain water management infrastructure in a sustainable manner with necessary local resources mobilization.
