Scope

The Project will be implemented in the ten priority areas of the Interim Administration of Afghanistan and were selected on the basis of vulnerability, potential numbers of returning internally displaced persons (IDPs) and regional balance. A total of about 150 communities will benefit from the education reconstruction of the projects.

Objectives

Overall Objective

To equip the Afghan youth with values and education aimed at stimulating self-help capacities to overcome poverty.

Project Purpose

" To pilot a sustainable and comprehensive approach to community-based, gender-sensitive basic education in post-conflict rural poor Afghanistan.

Expected Output

  • Develop sustainable basic education services with the participation of broader community in education development, focusing on girls basic education from poor families.
  • Employment generation through education in the construction industry in support of equipment and furniture required for the schools.
  • Promoting sustainable peace process by involving the local community and local entrepreneurs in the project and including peace education features in education and training.

Main Project Components and Activities

The Project has five components namely:

  • community based basic education planning and management
  • community government partnership for reconstruction
  • provision of essential learning and teaching materials
  • school-based teacher training
  • early childhood development, non-formal education and other innovative approaches
