Millenium Development Goals
Eight Millennium Development Goals were set out in the 2002
United Nations Millennium Declaration. ADB formally adopted
them into its operations in April of that year. They are
- eradicate extreme poverty and hunger;
- achieve universal primary education;
- promote gender equality and empower women;
- reduce child mortality;
- improve maternal health;
- combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases;
- ensure environmental stability;
- develop a global partnership for development.
A further 18 targets and 48 indicators were specified as guides
to their achievement.
