The Asian Development Bank Annual Report 2004 outlines ADB's efforts to become a more effective, transparent public institution by improving the management of its resources and the impact of its operations to make it a more effective, dynamic development partner.
The main instruments for providing help to developing members are policy dialogue, loans, technical assistance, grants, guarantees, and equity investments. In 2004,
- loans amounted to $5.3 billion
- $197 million were approved for technical assistance
- $191 million were approved for grants including cofinancing
- $185 million were approved for equity investments.
Among the major highlights include:
- endorsement of a knowledge management framework, a reform agenda, an enhanced poverty reduction strategy that implements managing for development results, a new human resource strategy, a new strategy on information and communication technology, and a new disaster emergency assistance policy
- opening of new resident missions in Azerbaijan and Thailand, an office in Fiji Islands, and a liaison and coordination office for the Pacific in Australia
- country reports on lending and technical assistance activities in 2004
- financial statements for 2004
- 35 tables on ADB operations
