This report presents a preliminary assessment of the damage and losses caused by the earthquake. The assessment used the international standard methodology for measuring disasters, and drawsupon some of the best experts in the world. The report provides the Government and the international community a clearer understanding of the impact of the disaster, and a basis for designing reconstruction and recovery programs. The report was prepared under the leadership of National Development Planning Agency (BAPPENAS), supported by a strong team of Indonesian and international specialists.
