This report provides a snapshot of ADB's strategies, assistance and activities to address the environment-development nexus in Asia and the Pacific.
ContentsThe report is intended for ADB's many stakeholders—its borrowers or clients, development partners, nongovernment organizations (NGOs), the private sector, and others—and is structured as follows: Preface, Table of Contents, List of Boxes, List of Figures and Tables, Abbreviations [ PDF: 75kb | 8 pages ] Chapter 1 [ PDF: 76kb | 4 pages ] describes development trends in the region characterized by rapid economic growth in certain countries, the continued widespread incidence of poverty, and accompanying environmental problems and issues. Chapter 2 [ PDF: 243kb | 36 pages ] presents ADB's environmental assistance programs as of the end of 2006 with examples of projects across environment subthemes approved from 2003 to 2006. This chapter also describes trends in environmental lending, technical assistance, and grants over the past 10 years. It outlines the manner by which ADB mainstreams environmental considerations into its country-level strategic planning through to project processing and implementation. Chapter 3 [ PDF: 252kb | 44 pages ] provides an account of major environmental initiatives ADB supports and partnerships forged to catalyze ADB's assistance to its DMCs, complementing and supplementing the ADB assistance described in Chapter 2.
