Global Poverty Report
Globalization and its impact on poverty are in the spotlight of today's discussions in meeting rooms of high-level decision-makers and on the street. Opinions mix fears, hopes, and facts, sometimes arriving at explosive positions. The Global Poverty Report - GPR -- originated at the Cologne summit of the heads of state of the G7 countries in 1999. It aims to inform the discussion of heads of states of key poverty reduction issues that require support from developed countries. It is an annual report prepared by ADB, African Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Inter-American Bank for Development, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund. The Global Poverty Report 2000, prepared for the summit in Okinawa, gives an overview of trends in poverty reduction and of some key problem area. The Global Poverty Report 2001 focuses on the impact of trade liberalization on poverty. The Global Poverty Report 2002 focuses primarily on poverty reduction efforts in Africa. |
