Achieving development effectiveness will require, at a minimum, country ownership, harmonization, alignment, and improved management for development results (MfDR). During the Bishkek Regional Workshop on Harmonization, Alignment, and MfDR, developing country participants shared lessons learned from their own experiences and considered how the global development agenda can be translated to country and sector levels. Developing countries must be able to strengthen their human and institutional capacities, including implementing country-owned systems around which development assistance can be aligned. Donors should support capacity development efforts through strategic partnerships with all stakeholders, including other donors, developing country governments, civil society, and the private sector. Further, developing countries that take ownership of their development process and begin to achieve development effectiveness can help drive this process for the benefit of other developing countries.
