Tonga

The number of ongoing loans remains at four, with no loans approved or closed during the first half of 1998. The Second Power Development Project, approved during the second half of 1996, has not been declared effective in view of the proposal to privatize one of the EA’s power plants. Implementation of the other three projects has been generally satisfactory.

Contract awards of $2.2 million represented 107 percent of the semiannual projection and 90 percent of the annual target of $2.5 million. Disbursements of $3.4 million were equivalent to 188 percent of the semiannual projection and 103 percent of the annual projection of $3.3 million. Table 42 summarizes the data for Tonga.
