India: North Karnataka Urban Sector Investment Program
Resettlement Planning Documents

The North Karnataka Urban Sector Investment Program (the Program) will assist the Government of Karnataka in rehabilitating existing and constructing new urban infrastructure facilities in 25 urban local bodies (ULBs) of North Karnataka. The Program scope will include water supply and sewerage systems, drainage, and urban road resurfacing and junction improvements. The poorest members of society will benefit from a slum improvement program. Fire-fighting capacity improvements, lake development, and construction of some tourism facilities are also included. The Program will introduce private sector participation in selected sub-sectors, and support the ongoing institutional reforms and training for the ULB staff currently being conducted under the Nirmala Nagar Programme.

The Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC), the executing agency, has prepared revised draft short resettlement plans for two sample sub-projects in two Program ULBs of Hospet and Raichur. A resettlement plan was previously prepared for Haveri town. However, during detailed design, the project was redesigned with less land area and located entirely within government owned land. As a result, there is no land acquisition or resettlement requirements for the proposed Haveri Tranche I project, and therefore no Resettlement Plan needed.

To ensure compliance with the Government and ADB's policies and requirements on resettlement, a revised Resettlement Framework [ PDF: 401kb | 74 pages ] to guide the implementation of future sub-projects has also been formulated by KUIDFC.
