IND: East West Corridor Project
Resettlement Plan

The East-West Corridor Project will improve the principal highway corridor in the Gujarat State in Western India. Improvements and upgrading of 506.6 kilometers of national highways from Porbander to Dessa will require nearly 364 hectares of land. Although maximum efforts were made to minimize land take and involuntary resettlement by

• keeping the improvement works within the existing ROW
• adopting symmetrical widening
• raising the carriageway over congested segments, and
• constructing bypasses to avoid congested urban settlements

the Project will still require limited land acquisition for two short bypasses and for limited realignment. This will affect 2,526 families. The project also includes a Capacity Building Program that will strengthen the National Highway Authority of India's (NHAI) capacity to handle emerging social issues.

NHAI prepared this plan to address the involuntary resettlement impacts of the project.
