IND: National Highway Sector II Project
Resettlement Framework and Resettlement Plan
The National Highway Sector II Project in India will rehabilitate and widen priority section of the North-South Corridor, with emphasis on 566 km of existing highways in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. A section of 104 km between Lalitpur and Sagar was selected as a sample subproject.
The sample subproject will widen the stretch to four-to-six-lane, improve junction, provide underpasses, flyovers, and bypasses. Despite efforts to avoid urban settlements and minimize resettlement effects, assessments done during project design revealed that land acquisition for the sample subproject will result to involuntary resettlement effects. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) prepared a resettlement plan
to address these impacts.
NHAI also prepared a resettlement framework which sets out the policy and procedures for preparing resettlement plans for the subsequent subprojects that will be prepared, screened, and appraised under the sector loan approach.
