LAO: Greater Mekong Subregion-Mekong Tourism Development Project
Resettlement Framework and Resettlement Plan

The Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Mekong Tourism Development Project [PDF] will promote the development of the tourism sector in the lower Mekong River basin. The project will improve tourism-related infrastructure, support pro-poor community based tourism projects in rural areas, facilitate private sector participation in tourism marketing and promotion, establish mechanisms to increase subregional cooperation, and facilitate the movement of tourists across borders.

The National Tourism Authority of Lao PDR (NTAL) identified four core subprojects in Lao People's Democratic Republic

  • Access Road Improvement to Kwangsi Water Falls
  • Louang Namtha Airport Improvement
  • Access Road Improvement to Konglor Cave
  • Pro-Poor Community- Based Tourism

Improvement of the airport in Louang Namtha and access roads to Konglor Cave will entail some involuntary resettlement effects. Read the resettlement plan [PDF] to learn how NTAL proposes to address the resettlement effects of the Louang Namtha Airport Improvement Project.

NTAL also prepared this resettlement framework [PDF] to set the guidelines and principles to address the involuntary resettlement effects of subprojects that will be identified during implementation. A summary of the framework [PDF] is also available.
