Resettlement Plan

The proposed Yichang-Wanzhou Railway Project in the People's Republic of China involves the construction and operation of about 391 km of railway in Yichang in Hubei Province and Wanzhou in Chongqing Municipality. Efforts were made by the Ministry of Railways, ADB's Executing Agency, to avoid urban areas and to select the alignment with the least involuntary resettlement effects.

However, MOR estimates that 1,087 hectares (has) of land will be acquired for the railway right-of-way, yards, stations, and other associated facilities, or 2.77 ha per route kilometer. An additional 203 ha of land will be acquired for temporary use during construction. As a result, approximately 7,423 persons will be affected by loss of land and 17,752 by loss of housing.

The Government prepared the following resettlement plan to mitigate the involuntary resettlement impacts of the project.
