Seminar on Project Implementation and Administration

Welcome Remarks by
Makoto Ojiro
Country Director, Tajikistan Resident Mission
Asian Development Bank

15 July 2008
Dushanbe, Tajikistan

Mr. Buriev, participants of the seminar, ladies and gentlemen, good morning to all of you. My name is Makoto Ojiro, and I am ADB’s Country Director for Tajikistan.

I would like to welcome you all on behalf of the Asian Development Bank to the Country Seminar on Project Implementation and Administration.

This is the second time, when the Asian Development Bank conducts this kind of seminars in Dushanbe. The first seminar was held in April 2004.

Let me briefly mention about the seminar objectives and format.

Key objective of the seminar is to inform, orient and build capacity of government officials, staff from executing agencies and project implementation units on ADB policies and procedures related to procurement of consulting services; procurement of goods and works; and disbursement.

The seminar will consist of lectures, interactive question and answer sessions, group work/role playing exercises, and case studies.

Let me now introduce facilitators of the seminar: Mr. Walter Poick, who will present procurement of goods and works; Mr. Yoshinobu Tatewaki, who will talk about disbursement, and Mr. Hiroyuki Maruyama, who will cover consulting services part.

I encourage all of you to make full use of your time with our colleagues from Headquarters and to use this seminar as a venue to maximize your learning individually and collectively as a group.

Thank you for your kind attention, and wishing you a very productive and useful seminar.
