At the Reception on the 10th Anniversary of Partnership between Tajikistan and the Asian Development Bank

Dear ladies and gentlemen,
On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, I would like to congratulate everyone present here on this important date – 10th anniversary of cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Asian Development Bank.
It is particularly remarkable that today's celebration is attended by Mr. Xiaoyu Zhao, Vice President of the Asian Development Bank, who makes specific contribution to strengthen cooperation between ADB and Tajikistan. His current visit to our country is considered as an endeavor of the ADB management to continue enhancing cooperation between the Asian Development Bank and the Government.
The Republic of Tajikistan regards the Asian Development Bank as a competent financial institution of a world-wide scale that provides development balance through assistance and promotion to the needy Asian countries in resolving their vital social and economic problems.
The Republic of Tajikistan joined ADB at the time when our young independent state was just transiting to the peaceful stage of development.
It should be mentioned that at that time the Asian Development Bank was one of the first who extended a helping hand to our republic. Owing to the efforts of His Excellency Emomali Rakhmon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, over a short period of time, Tajik people were able to come back to quiet creative life. Activity of the Asian Development Bank in our country helped to overcome social and economic difficulties and enter the development stage.
Over ten years of cooperation with the Asian Development Bank, Tajikistan received the following ADB assistance: loans in the amount of $372 million, grants - $92.3 million, and technical assistance - $33.7 million.
We highly appreciate ADB's support to our country in implementation of projects in different sectors of the economy, such as energy, infrastructure and transport, finance, agriculture, social sector, and disaster response.
ADB supports the reform program which is being successfully implemented and promotes economic growth and macroeconomic stability.
I am sure that cooperation between the Government of Tajikistan and the Asian Development Bank will become stronger for the benefit of the people of Tajikistan.
The Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in its further activity will cooperate with the Asian Development Bank and other international financial agencies more closely on accelerated resolution of poverty problems in the country.
Let me once again congratulate you, Mr. Zhao, and everyone present here with the 10th anniversary of our partnership and wish success in further activity on strengthening cooperation between the Asian Development Bank and the Republic of Tajikistan.
