SESSION 2: VISIONS FOR A LOW-CARBON ENERGY FUTURE

This panel discussion conveyed a range of perspectives on the future, covering energy, lighting, and management systems. It addressed issues such as: What will the energy system of the future look like? How will our lighting systems function and differ from lighting today? How can energy efficiency be integrated into management best practice in order to make the transition to a truly low-carbon economy?

SESSION 3: ACCESS TO ENERGY

This panel defined energy access, reported on current rates of access to energy as well as discuss the main barriers to improved access both regionally and in specific countries. Presenters described successful models for scaling up different technologies that improve energy access, and possible sources of funding and investment. This panel also reporte the results of the pre-forum workshop held on 2 June.

SESSION 6: MARKETPLACE OF IDEAS

The Marketplace of Ideas is an opportunity for Asia's most promising clean energy solutions to be promoted, discussed and matched with private sector and international donor funding. The Marketplace of Ideas provided Forum participants with the opportunity to exchange information through informal dialogue with more than 475 members of the private sector, public sector, civil society and academia. Judges selected five entries for Innovation Awards in the following categories:

  • Energy Efficiency Solutions
  • Energy Access Solutions
  • Clean Energy Supply Solutions (including cleaner fossil fuel solutions)

SESSION 7: SUSTAINABLE BIOFUELS: ENERGY SOLUTION OR IMPENDING DISASTER

Recent events have cast doubt on the adoption of biofuels as a core strategy for reducing energy dependence, in terms of food availability and prices, as well as the net energy and GHG mitigation benefits. This panel discused how biofuels can be developed sustainably, in light of recent events and research, and highlighted the key policies and actions needed for a sustainable approach to the use of biofuels.

SESSION 8: STRATEGIES FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF BIOFUELS

This panel built on the previous plenary session and explored the role of biofuels in meeting future energy needs, technology and policy options, and what guidelines or standards are needed as a framework for development of biofuels.

Two of the most advanced technologies for coal power plants are Integrated Gas Combined Cycle (IGCC) and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). Panelists addressed the status of technologies, costs and feasibility, and how approaches can be adapted for implementation in Asia.
