This panel defined energy access, reported on current rates of access to energy as well as discuss the main barriers to improved access both regionally and in specific countries. Presenters described successful models for scaling up different technologies that improve energy access, and possible sources of funding and investment. This panel also reporte the results of the pre-forum workshop held on 2 June.

The Marketplace of Ideas provided Forum participants with the opportunity to exchange information through informal dialogue with more than 475 members of the private sector, public sector, civil society and academia. SESSION 7: SUSTAINABLE BIOFUELS: ENERGY SOLUTION OR IMPENDING DISASTER
Recent events have cast doubt on the adoption of biofuels as a core strategy for reducing energy dependence, in terms of food availability and prices, as well as the net energy and GHG mitigation benefits. This panel discused how biofuels can be developed sustainably, in light of recent events and research, and highlighted the key policies and actions needed for a sustainable approach to the use of biofuels.
