The Asia and Pacific region’s water sector feels the impact of climate change in both environmental and economic ways. Climate change affects the quality and availability of water supply from both ground and surface sources, which are the very lifeline to economic productivity of households, industries, and entire cities. Managing water resources becomes more difficult because of climate variability. The need to develop strategies for climate change adaptation is now more urgent than ever.
In December 2008, ADB and partners Network of Asian River Basin Organizations (NARBO), Center for River Basin Organization and Management (CRBOM), and National Hydraulic Research Institute of Malaysia (NAHRIM) held a regional workshop to develop a strategy and action plans for climate change projection and adaptation.
Some 100 participants from 16 countries attended the workshop. NAHRIM, as the Asia-Pacific Water Forum's water knowledge hub on climate change adaptation, was tasked to prepare the workshop report, which served as reference to this meeting.
