Q: Is there a printed version of the e-Handbook? Is there a format that I can download?

A: The e-Handbook is only available online. There was previously a printed version entitled, Handbook on Management of Project Implementation (1988), but it was noted that the contents quickly became dated due to the nature of dynamic policy changes that transpire once the book was printed. The current form of the handbook provides for a convenient approach to updating the contents as the references change. Thus you would always get an updated version of the e-Handbook so long as you access it via the web page.

Q: I saw the CD picture on the home page of the e-Handbook. Where can I get the CD?

A: The picture of the CD was meant to exemplify that the e-Handbook is in a new electronic format, not a printed handbook. There is, at the moment, no CD version of the e-Handbook. However the editorial team is considering the merits of creating a CD version. Please wait for further announcement.

Q: How often is the e-Handbook updated?

A: The e-Handbook is updated in two ways. One is by the editorial team of the e-Handbook where the actual contents and information contained in the e-Handbook are updated. This is done on a continuing basis as the need arises. The second way is indirectly by the respective owners of the reference documents linked by the e-Handbook. For example: changes in the Anticorruption, Policy, and Procedures site will be shown when the link to that site is clicked from the e-Handbook.

Q: Why are there so many links to other pages, can't the handook already contain this information so I would not have to go to another page?

A: The editorial team of the e-Handbook adopted an approach of not "reinventing the wheel". We respect that the various owners of the information have taken great lengths to provide the information in a form that is clear and accessible to those who need it. Thus the e-Handbook consistently provides links to these online references instead of replicating their contents. This also provides for the secondary mechanism of updates where changes made by the content owners to their respective online pages will also be seen from links coming from the e-Handbook. This effectively takes out the need to inform the e-Handbook editorial team of their changes except only for changes in the URL.

Q: Who are the intended users of the e-Handbook?

A: The intended primary users would be the executing agencies and implementing agencies staff involved in ADB-financed projects. ADB staff and consultants involved in implementation of ADB-financed projects can also benefit from using the e-Handbook.

Q: Can I use other project management software?

A: The e-Handbook does not impose or prescribe any specific project management software for use by project teams in the management of their projects. At the very least, the e-Handbook only espouses the use of software for the purpose of better project management and the ease in applying the critical path method in monitoring project progress. The two software packages mentioned in the e-Handbook are provided as a reference starting point of what a project management software application can do.

Q: Am I free to download and use the project templates?

A: If you are a person/entity involved in an ADB-financed project then by all means, please do as these have been provided for you as a convenient means of starting up a project schedule without having to enumerate the most commonly known tasks and dependencies. For those downloading them for purposes not related to any ADB-financed project, please observe the Creative Commons attribution to the content.

Q: Are the project templates the official project management templates of ADB?

A: These are not official templates, but they are a translation of defined processes and procedures. The project templates are based on certain circulars and references whose links can also be found within the e-Handbook. The editorial team has taken a significant effort to translate these into project tasks and dependencies and to be accurate and true to the essence of the basic documents. The templates are provided as a starting point and it is expected that they will be modified by end-users to suit their particular projects.

Q: If I read something that I believe needs to be corrected, where can I send these corrections?

A: Please send all editorial comments/suggestions/corrections to ehandbook@adb.org.

Q: Who is in charge of the e-Handbook?

A: The project effort to create an electronic handbook on project implementation was initiated and executed by ADB's Central Operations Services Office (COSO). The COSO editorial team continues to manage the contents of the e-Handbook. The respective owners of the references linked to by the e-Handbook maintain their management of their respective content.
