Scope

The project will focus on: (i) generation, and community-based management, operation and maintenance, and equitable pro-poor distribution of sustainable renewable energy; (ii) increase the household income and productivity through the efficient use and development of renewable energy-based livelihoods

Objectives

Grant Development Objective (GDO)

To achieve poverty reduction through the provision and efficient use of renewable energy supply to promote sustainable livelihood systems for poor local communities in off-grid areas of the Philippines within the framework of public-private-civil society partnership.

Project Purpose

The project purpose is to pilot an innovative community-based approach for the provision of electricity through renewable energy sources in off-grid areas of Negros Occidental.

Expected Outputs
  • setup and operation of eight renewable energy systems in off-grid areas, and extension of renewable energy use by a total of about 200 kilowatts (kW);
  • dramatic increase in percentage of the community serviced with electricity from renewable energy systems;
  • set-up and operation of two sustainable revolving fund mechanisms for electricity connection to household of the poor and for livelihood development;
  • number and percentage of poor households below the regional poverty threshold (average per capita income of $0.27 per day) connected to renewable energy systems; and
  • number and value of renewable energy-based livelihood activities developed
