Mr. Andrea Monari is the Resident Director General of the Asian Development Bank's European Representative Office (ERO). He assumed office in June 2008.
As Resident Director General of ADB's only office in Europe, Mr. Monari works with 17 European member countries – Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, and United Kingdom. ERO was established in Frankfurt, Germany in December 1996.
Mr. Monari is in charge of enhancing public awareness of ADB's role and activities; gathering views of European member countries on Official Development Assistance policy directions and priorities on developing Asia and the Pacific; promoting co-financing and resource mobilization; disseminating information to European partners including the business community and civil society; and strengthening relations between ADB and multilateral and bilateral development institutions headquartered in Europe.
Prior to this, Mr. Monari was the Deputy Director General of ADB's Budget, Personnel and Management Systems Department. He oversaw the implementation of the 2008 Performance Development Plan review process and the Staff Engagement Survey design and implementation.
An Italian national, Mr. Monari earned his Bachelor of International Law degree at the Universita' Statale di Milano.
