Public Consultation on Environment Policy

Note: The materials on this site are draft documents for discussion purposes only. To read the Note, you need Acrobat Reader.

The New Policy

ADB is drafting an Environment Policy and we invite your participation. The new policy will help govern the way in which ADB seeks to improve environment conditions in Asia, and the way it looks at the environment in its programs and projects.

Help us develop an effective policy that represents shared values, and then help us ensure that those values are actually realized when ADB implements projects.

How to Participate

We have developed a short Note on the Draft Environment Policy Working Paper (20.5 kb, PDF) for consultation and discussion. It outlines the need for an environment policy, the proposed areas of attention, and some key principles governing our practice vis-à-vis the environment.

Tell Us What You Think (34 kb, Word doc), then email the form back to us at environment@adb.org. We would appreciate receiving your comments by 30 June so we may incorporate them into the draft Environment Policy Working Paper.

To date, ADB has received comments on the Note from stakeholders in the Asian and Pacific regions. A documentation of the stakeholders' comments may be accessed through Synthesis of the Comments on the Note (50.4 kb, PDF).

The Consultation Process in Member Countries

ADB is engaging all stakeholders in formulating the environment policy. We have identified a diverse group of stakeholders representing all sectors (government, civil society, NGOs, private sector, and academia). This process is further explained in the Consultation Strategy. We have been holding consultation workshops in most member countries. View the Public Consultation Schedule and Contacts (16.0 kb, PDF).

The comments and discussion from the consultation workshops are presented in Results of Completed Consultation Workshops (25.2 kb, PDF).

The Draft Environment Policy Working Paper

ADB has incorporated, where appropriate, Stakeholders' comments received on the draft. Read our latest Draft Environment Policy Working Paper (PDF: 280 KB, 56 pages).
