ADB's Sustainability ReportThe Asian Development Bank (ADB) places high priority on promoting environmentally sustainable growth in Asia and the Pacific. It also seeks to minimize its own corporate environmental footprint. For example, ADB is proud to have become, in 2003, the first multilateral development bank to be certified under ISO 14001. However, reporting on such efforts has not been systematic in the past, and multilateral development banks—like private corporations—are now providing documentation for those interested in the organization’s policies and practices. This first Sustainability Report of ADB aims to make such information readily available. Its contents are presented in three main sections. Part 1 provides background on the organization’s mandate and structures - what ADB is and how it works. Part 2 highlights ADB’s work on three important aspects of sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific:
Part 3 documents ADB’s actions to minimize its corporate footprint. The report includes an appendix that provides links between the Global Reporting Initiative’s indicators and the text of the report, plus other pertinent sources.
