Environmental sustainability is a prerequisite for economic growth and poverty reduction in Asia and the Pacific. ADB's long-term strategic framework for 2008-2020 (or Strategy 2020) identifies environmentally sustainable growth as a key strategic development agenda, and environment as a core area for support. ADB promotes and invests in sound environmental and natural resource management in support of Strategy 2020. Ho Chi Minh City Adaptation to Climate Change: Summary Report This study provides HCMC's government and private sector with projections of HCMC's 2050 exposure in key sectors and areas, and proposes structural and nonstructural measures to build climate resilience in the city's most vulnerable sectors and areas.
Rethinking Transport and Climate Change This report, the tenth in the ADB Sustainable Development Working Paper Series, provides a review of emerging issues to address transport and climate change in developing Asia, and covers a range of themes: measurement of carbon in the transport sector; policies needed for low-carbon transport, co-benefits, innovative financing; and institutional frameworks needed to address transport and climate change.
Economic Growth and Environmental Regulation: The People's Republic of China's Path to a Brighter Future The book, a joint publication of ADB and Routledge, examines the role of environmental regulation as a means for solving existing problems and creating better futures in rapidly developing economies.

ADB Supports Biodiversity Conservation Biodiversity, the remarkable variety of life that sustains us, is in danger. Species extinction is at its fastest rate ever and is tied mostly to human activities that pollute and deplete water resources, alter and degrade habitats, and trigger climate change. This year's World Environment Day theme ("Many Species. One Planet. One Future.") echoes the urgent call of the United Nation's International Year of Biodiversity to halt the loss of species, and to galvanize actions to make ecosystems more resilient. Under its Strategy 2020, ADB helps countries implement projects and programs to conserve biodiversity including enhancing critical ecosystems in the region.
