Environment Policy, Operations Manual and GuidelinesThe Environment PolicyADB's Board of Directors approved the Environment Policy on 8 November 2002 after extensive consultations with internal and external stakeholders. The Environment Policy is grounded in ADB's Poverty Reduction Strategy that recognizes that environmental sustainability is a prerequisite for pro-poor economic growth and efforts to reduce poverty. It is also anchored on ADB's Long-term Strategic Framework (2001-2015) that includes environmental sustainability as also one of its three crosscutting themes. Moreover, it reinforces and complements the environmental issues and concerns addressed in ADB's sector and crosscutting policies. The Policy addresses five main challenges:
