Effective 1 January 2009, OED is renamed the Independent Evaluation Department, as part of measures approved by ADB's Board of Directors to enhance the independence and effectiveness of ADB's operations evaluation function. These measures are based on a review conducted by a Working Group set up by ADB President Haruhiko Kuroda in March.

Independent Evaluation at ADB

ADB evaluates operations to find out what results are being achieved, what improvements should be considered, and what is being learned. This is achieved through a systematic and impartial assessment of policies, strategies, programs, and projects, including their design, implementation, and results.
