Since 1986, ADB has taken a lead role in providing assistance to many developing member countries for the development of their capital markets. The study seeks to help determine the effectiveness of such assistance, conditions for success, and approaches for future assistance. At a general level, it will analyze ADB's responsiveness to sector development challenges, suitability of approach, capacity, and value addition in this area, which will be combined with assessments of the relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, sustainability, and impact of individual capital markets development projects.
