Development of Insurance and Pensions Systems
A number of DMCs are undertaking social security systems reforms,
primarily to ensure their financial viability, but also to help
develop a domestic institutional investor base. Some economies are
transforming their pension systems from un-funded pay-as-you-go
systems towards funded systems with private management. A recent
conference
on private pensions, which was jointly organized by
ADB and OECD under the aegis of the International
Network of Pension Regulators and Supervisors discussed
pertinent issues.
ADB projects supports this process through assistance for:
- developing pension reform agendas
- assessing funding requirements and developing restructuring
options for social security systems
- building the capacity of public provident and pension funds
and social security administrations
- improving governance framework and professional standards for
pension fund managers
- improving regulation and supervision
