AgricultureAGR028: Study for Identification of Suitable Sites for Eucalyptus Farming PROFILE

The project aims to develop a study to identify suitable sites for eucalyptus farming. Returns to investment from eucalyptus has been proven in many cases to be higher than a number of commercial upland crops as well as fast growing trees. Nonetheless, there have been many controversies around this crop. Some of the reservations over the external effects from eucalyptus that may result in negative impact on the immediate environment of the plantation should be taken into consideration in so far as these contribute to the development of better or improved management practices . Eucalyptus production is advocated only in forest areas already converted for alternative uses, particularly areas converted for agricultural purposes.
